Historical Event: Transfer of St. Mark’s Aug 21, 2018

An historic event took place this date, August 21, 2018 on the Port de Grave Peninsula.  Today the Port de Grave Peninsula Heritage Society received the official transfer for the former St. Mark’s Church and Schoolhouse from the Anglican Diocese of Eastern Newfoundland and Labrador for the sum of $1.00.

Representing the Diocese was The Ven. Sam Rose who made the transfer to Dr. Adrian Lear on behalf of the Society.  A large crowd were in attendance including former members of the Society, Gerald Andrews, Edwin Hussey and former MHA and MP the Hon. John Efford.

The church will now be housing the Canadian Coast Guard Alumni treasures collected from different parts of Newfoundland and Labrador and has been in storage for the past twenty years.  The building will also be used for a number of events tba.

Immediately following the ceremony a delicious lunch was served in the now known Canon Richard’s Tearoom.
