UPDATE:  An highlight of the evening was the center pieces, Danny Porter, went to the Fishermen’s Museum and gathered up 22 pieces and had on loan for the Gala.  He than attached each piece to a piece of wood, wrote up a description and placed it in the center of the table.  It was a conversation piece for the evening, guest were invited to pick up the piece and try and figure what it was, and than pass it on to the next person and than to the next table.  After discussions were held on what it was than they were allowed to pick up the tent card laid next to it and read all about it.  In this album are all the items along with descriptions, hope you enjoy it!  Once again thanks Danny for a job well done!

UPDATE:  September 10, 2017, the day after!

St. Luke’s Hall, Port de Grave was transformed into an elegant dining hall last evening, where a sold out Anchored in the Sea Gala was held. The Gala hosted by the Port de Grave Peninsula Heritage Society, a major fundraiser for the group. The evening started off with a Meet and Greet, a slide show of the Peninsula of yesteryear was provided by Bob Ball. The meal which consisted of the Appetizer – Ice Shrimp Pasta Salad, Entree – Beef tenderloin with mushroom demi-glaze, served with potatoe puree and fresh vegetable medley. Hats of to Chef Ryan Norris and his crew, who done an outstanding job! By the way for those who don’t know Ryan he is married to one of the organizers Melissa (Petten). Special thanks to Debbie Young for the transformation of the hall it was spectacular!

The Gala under the direction of Committee Chair Iris Petten, and her sub-committee provided a very entertaining evening. The table center pieces were objects on loan from the Fishermen’s Museum, each item was attached to a piece of wood and it was to be passed around the table to see if the guest knew what it was, it stumped some people but some people were able to identify the object. There was a card on each table that identified the object once it was discussed. Special thanks to Danny Porter for overseeing this special project.

Hats off to Lois Petten, for welcoming the guest, and looking after the dessert table, each dessert was given a special name and was later auctioned off, this was a fun part of the evening. Thanks to all those who provided the desserts. Special thanks to Melissa Danielle Norris(Petten) and her crew of young people who served the meal so efficiently, they did an awesome job getting the meal served quickly.

Special thanks to the guest speakers Larry Dohey from The Rooms, who told some very interesting archival moments of the peninsula, very enjoyable! Also, to Blaine Sullivan, Chair of OCI, and to our MP Mr. Ken MacDonald.

After all the formalities, there was an auction, thanks to Wallace Babcock for being the auctioneer, you did an awesome job! Thanks, to all those who purchased the items! Special thanks to those who donated the items!

Last but not least a very special thank you to all those who purchased tickets, participated in the 50/50 draw, ticket sales, the auction, you were the ones who made the night so successful!

On behalf of all members of the Port de Grave Peninsula Heritage Society, thank you!
